Mayawati expels Akash's father-in-law Ashok Siddharth again
Lucknow, Aug. 3 -- Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) national president Mayawati on Sunday expelled senior party leader and former Rajya Sabha MP Ashok Siddharth from the party on charges of anti-party activities for the second time in nearly 18 months and made it clear he will not be taken back into the party under any circumstances in the future.
National coordinator Randhir Singh Beniwal, who was in-charge of the party in Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh, has also been expelled on the charge of anti-party activities. The BSP president made the announcement on X.
Ashok Siddharth is the father-in-law of Akash Anand, Mayawati's nephew and BSP national convenor. Siddharth was in charge of party affairs in Karnataka, Delhi, Gujarat, Odisha and West Bengal.
Earlier, Mayawati had expelled Siddharth from the party in February 2025 and reinstated him in September of that year.
Known for working behind the scenes, Siddharth won Mayawati's confidence in the past and was rewarded with a Rajya Sabha berth and made in-charge of various states.
His fortunes in the party improved further after Akash Anand married his daughter Pragya in March 2023. Siddharth was made central coordinator of the BSP.
In a post on X on Sunday, Mayawati said, "As is well known Ashok Siddharth, former MP, was expelled from the party earlier due to indiscipline and violation of directives, particularly in relation to the distribution of party tickets in the Maharashtra elections and for not coordinating properly with the BSP Maharashtra state president and others."
"He was later reinstated in the party on the condition that he would not repeat such mistakes, and he was assigned the responsibility of strengthening party's base not in Uttar Pradesh, but only in other states," she said.
However, he did not fulfil his duties properly in the states where he was given responsibility as a BSP coordinator thereafter, she said.
"Not only in Karnataka but also from Odisha and West Bengal, reports of his indiscipline-that is, violation of party directives-kept coming in continuously. Since no improvement was observed despite repeated warnings, Ashok Siddharth was relieved of all party responsibilities on Saturday," she said.
After this, the reports of his return to UP are a deliberate conspiracy to create confusion within the party and affect the campaign for the upcoming UP assembly elections, the BSP president said.
"Therefore, in the interest of the party and the movement, Ashok Siddharth has been expelled from the party with immediate effect today (Sunday), and he will not be taken back into the party under any circumstances in the future," she said.
Similarly, Randhir Singh Beniwal, resident of Saharanpur district, had been given responsibility as the BSP coordinator not only for Punjab but also Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir, she said.
Reports of indiscipline and violation of party directives against him were also coming in continuously, and in the interest of the party and the movement, Beniwal was also expelled from the party with immediate effect today (Sunday), she said.
In other organisational changes made at the national level in the party, Ramji Gautam, Rajya Sabha MP, has been reappointed as in-charge of Punjab along with other states.
He will continue to fulfil this responsibility not only until the upcoming Punjab assembly election but also until the Lok Sabha election, she said.
"Moreover, it is the policy decision of the BSP leadership that none of the Uttar Pradesh leaders who are currently assigned responsibilities in states outside UP as senior party office-bearers, coordinators will be assigned any responsibility in Uttar Pradesh," she said.
Mayawati appealed to the party workers to remain fully vigilant against all mischievous and conspiratorial elements who keep trying, by one pretext or another, to divert attention from the ongoing campaign to form a full-majority BSP government in Uttar Pradesh with full determination....
