Mathura police meets cow protectors; right-wing groups to curb rumour mongering
Agra, March 24 -- Following the violence on the National Highway after the death of cow vigilante Chandrashekhar, alias Farsa Baba, in the early hours of Saturday, Mathura police held a meeting with right-wing organisations and activists in Mathura and Vrindavan.
According to the Mathura police's media cell, the meeting was organised on Sunday evening in Mathura and was attended by 'gau-rakshaks' (cow protectors) and representatives of organisations like Rashtriya Bhagwa Dal, Hindu Jagran Manch and other involved youth organisations.
Those attending the meet were apprised of directives issued by higher authorities and the state government. Emphasis was placed on the positive use of social media so that rumour-mongering is not encouraged. Police officials at the meeting discussed methods to streamline a better exchange of information related to cattle so that any disruption to the law and order situation can be averted in the future.
Meanwhile, the number of arrests rose to 20 in the violent incident that followed the death of Chandrashekhar. These arrests were made in two cases registered by Mathura police to nab those responsible for the violent clash. Those arrested include Daksh Chaudhary from Ghaziabad and his associates, who reached Mathura later in the day on Saturday and had made a fresh attempt to ignite tempers over Farsa Baba's death. Earlier on Sunday, 19 people were arrested and sent to jail for allegedly blocking the Delhi-Agra National Highway and indulging in violence following the death of Chandrashekhar.
The arrests came a day after the 55-year-old was killed in the accident. In the early hours of Saturday, while he was inspecting a container on the highway in dense fog, a speeding truck rammed into the stationary container, leaving him critically injured. He later succumbed to his injuries.
Mathura's senior superintendent of police (SSP), Shlok Kumar, said, "The accused have been booked under sections 109(1), 190, 191(2), 191(3), 352, 351(2), 195, 132 and 324(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with provisions of the Criminal Law Amendment Act, the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, and Section 67 of the Information Technology Act."...
