LUCKNOW, Sept. 16 -- The Uttar Pradesh Vigilance Establishment has booked former Mandi Parishad Deputy Director (Construction) Ram Naresh Sonkar for allegedly accumulating assets disproportionate to his known sources of income, with investigators pegging the unexplained gap at Rs.45.61 lakh, senior vigilance officials informed on Tuesday. He said the case relates to the period from April 17, 2013 to April 16, 2018, when Sonkar was serving as a public servant. During this period, his known income was assessed at Rs.67,82,681, while expenditure on family maintenance, property acquisition and investments totalled Rs.1,13,44,108. The Vigilance Establishment said Sonkar could not satisfactorily explain the difference of Rs.45,61,427, he explained. An open inquiry had been ordered by the state government's Vigilance Section-4 in February 2021.
