man trampled to death by elephant in Corbett reserve
Haldwani, June 16 -- A 45-year-old man was killed after being attacked by a wild elephant in Kalagarh within the Corbett Tiger Reserve late on Sunday night, forest officials said on Monday. The deceased, believed to be mentally challenged, is yet to be identified.
According to Sub-Divisional Officer (Kalagarh Forest Division) Amit Gwasakoti, the incident occurred around 11 pm on the road connecting New Colony and Shiv Temple in Kalagarh.
"Local residents informed us that an elephant had trampled a man to death on the road. Following the information, a joint team of the forest department and police rushed to the spot," Gwasakoti said.
He said the elephant was driven back into the forest before officials recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem examination....
