Lucknow, May 28 -- A 26-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her estranged husband in Lucknow's Bazar Khala area on Wednesday in broad daylight after he reportedly called her to meet him on the pretext of reconciliation. Though he fled the scene, he was later detained. "The detailed questioning of Mohd Shahid (the accused) is underway while an FIR has been registered after a complaint was received from the family of the woman," said DCP, West, Kamlesh Dixit. According to the police, the victim, identified as Chandni, had been living at her paternal home in Aishbagh for the past three months due to frequent disputes and alleged domestic violence. The couple has a four-year-old son. According to police, Chandni was on her way to visit her sister-in-law, who was admitted to a hospital, when Shahid allegedly called and asked her to meet him. He reportedly took her to a deserted lane near Gate number 8 in Aishbagh, where he slit her throat with a knife and fled. Locals informed police after spotting the woman lying in a pool of blood. Officers reached the scene, sent the body for a post-mortem examination and launched a manhunt for the accused, who reportedly worked as a vegetable vendor. The victim's mother, Saboon, alleged that her son-in-law killed her daughter. She said the couple had been facing disputes for the past three months and her daughter had been staying at her parental home after allegedly being assaulted by her husband earlier. She said a complaint had been filed at Bazar Khala police station, but the matter was settled through a compromise. A divorce case was also pending in court.
