VARANASI, July 31 -- A 26-year-old man was found shot dead near the Karimullahpur canal under the Shadiabad police station limits in Ghazipur district on Thursday morning. Farmers heading to their fields spotted the body and alerted the police. Police reached the spot, took the body into custody and launched an investigation. The deceased was identified as Rohit Yadav, a resident of Fattepur in Ranipur village of Mau district. His identity was confirmed by his maternal uncle Mukesh Yadav. Station house officer (SHO) Vagish Vikram Singh said the victim had sustained a gunshot wound on the right side of his head. The blood at the scene had dried, indicating that the murder was likely committed on Wednesday night. Police are investigating the case to identify the assailants and ascertain the motive behind the killing. A father and his son were killed early Thursday morning when a cement-laden truck overturned on them near Kalna Gaharwar, located within the Vindhyachal police station area. The truck, traveling from Prayagraj, reportedly lost control during the early hours of the day, causing it to overturn onto the victims. The deceased were identified as Shiv Prasad, 45, and his son, Rohit Gupta, 13, both residents of Kalna Gaharwar. According to police, the two were sleeping on a cot outside their home when the accident occurred. Shiv Prasad died on the spot, while Rohit was rushed to the District Hospital by the Vindhyachal police but later succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Additional superintendent of police (ASP), Mirzapur, Nitesh Singh, confirmed that both bodies have been sent for post-mortem examinations. "We have registered a case under relevant sections of the law based on the complaint filed by the family, and the vehicle has been taken into custody," Singh said.
