Man shot at for objecting to celebratory firing; 6 held
KANPUR, April 26 -- Six people were arrested after a man who objected to celebratory firing at a wedding in Farrukhabad on Friday night was allegedly shot at and critically injured, police said.
The victim was identified as Gaurav Kumar in his 30s of Shamsabad, they added. He was first rushed to Lohia Hospital in Farrukhabad and later referred to Kanpur due to his serious condition. DIG, Kanpur range, Harish Chander said the matter was under thorough investigation and that those found guilty would face strict action.
Kaimganj police station house officer Vinod Kumar Shukla and outpost in charge Ankur Bhati reached the marriage hall in Patwaan Gali shortly after the incident was reported.
On the basis of the complaint filed by Gaurav's brother, an FIR was registered against local politician Purshottam Saxena and five of his associates and they were later arrested. According to the FIR, Saxena and his associates allegedly turned their weapons on Gaurav and fired at him with the intent to kill. The bullet struck him in the abdomen....
