Man shoots younger sibling dead over Meerut property
Meerut, May 29 -- A man in Meerut allegedly murdered his 30-year-old younger brother, transported the body on a motorcycle, and buried it in a five-foot-deep pit inside a forest area. The crime came to light 23 days later after the victim's maternal aunt raised suspicion over the accused's behaviour and lodged a complaint with police.
The incident was reported from the Bahsuma police station area of Meerut district.
According to police, the accused, identified as 32-year-old Kapil Kumar, confessed during interrogation that he killed his younger brother, Ankur, on May 5 to gain control over the family's agricultural land. After the murder, he allegedly buried the body in the Century forest area nearly one kilometre away from the fields where the crime took place.
Police later exhumed the body in the presence of the accused and sent it for a postmortem examination.
The family belongs to Mahmoodpur Sikheda village. Baburam, the father, owns nearly 60 bighas of agricultural land. He has three sons - Kapil, Ankur, and Ankit. While Kapil and Ankur worked in agriculture in the village, the youngest brother, Ankit, serves in the Indian Army.
Ankur had gone missing on May 5. Family members and relatives had been searching for him continuously, but no clue about his whereabouts emerged.
On Thursday, Ankur's maternal aunt Jagbeeri approached Bahsuma police station and filed a complaint expressing suspicion against Kapil. She informed police that despite the entire family being engaged in searching for Ankur, Kapil appeared unusually indifferent and uninterested in the search efforts.
Acting on the complaint, police detained Kapil for questioning.
During interrogation, Kapil confessed to killing his younger brother. He told investigators that Ankur was working in the fields on May 5 when he shot him in the head from behind using a country-made firearm....
