PRAYAGRAJ, July 4 -- The body of a 30-year-old man was found hanging inside a room at his home in Banpurva Dhanupur village under the Handia police station area of Prayagraj on Friday, just days after his younger brother was found dead by hanging. The incident sparked outrage among family members and villagers, who alleged the involvement of a public representative in the death and demanded a fair investigation. Refusing to allow the police to take custody of the body, they staged a road blockade on the Dhanupur route, disrupting traffic. Senior police and administrative officials, including ACP Sheshdhar Pandey, ADCP Pushkar Verma, DCP (Ganganagar) Kuldeep Singh Gunawat, ADM Upma Pandey and SDM Akanksha Singh, reached the spot and held talks with the aggrieved family. After officials assured them of a fair and impartial investigation in accordance with the law, the family called off the protest, following which the body was sent for post-mortem examination. According to police, the deceased's younger brother (28), who had got married on June 7, was found hanging from a tree on the outskirts of the village on June 11. According to a complaint filed by the deceased's mother Lalti Devi, Samajwadi Party MLA Hakim Lal Bind for Handia constituency, singer Sumitra Nandani, her brother Amit Gautam, Gauri, and Sanjay Gautam had allegedly been threatening her family over an old land dispute. The complaint further alleges that both brothers were murdered as part of a conspiracy to grab their ancestral property. Acting on the complaint, police have registered an FIR against the MLA and four others under charges including murder and other relevant provisions. ACP Sheshdhar Pandey confirmed that the case had been registered and that further legal action was underway. According to police, the investigation will proceed based on the post-mortem findings and other evidence collected during the probe. However, SP MLA Bind denied the allegations, saying, "I have no connection with Lalti Devi's family. The case has been registered against me forcibly, and the allegation of attempting to grab their land is completely baseless. Let the authorities investigate the matter; the truth will come out."...
