Meerut, June 17 -- Sambhal Police have solved the murder of a 35-year-old shopkeeper, arresting a man who allegedly killed him over a longstanding personal dispute involving his wife. The murder took place on Monday evening near a petrol pump on the Badaun-Moradabad Road in the Chandausi Kotwali area. The victim, identified as Rajesh Prajapati, a resident of Power House Ki Madiya in Badaun Chungi, was attacked with an iron rod and died on the spot after sustaining severe head injuries. The accused, Totaram Prajapati (40), son of Natthu Lal Prajapati and a resident of Badaun Chungi, was taken into custody and later confessed to the crime during interrogation. According to police, Totaram told investigators that Rajesh had eloped with his wife about a year and a half ago. The couple had three children, and the accused allegedly harboured resentment over the incident, ultimately deciding to take revenge. In a swift breakthrough, Muzaffarnagar police solved a high-profile theft at a Union Bank of India branch within 24 hours of the crime, recovering the entire stolen amount and arresting the accused following a police encounter. The theft occurred at the Union Bank of India branch in Tisang village under the Jansath police station limits. Addressing a press conference at the Police Lines auditorium on Tuesday, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sanjay Kumar Verma said the accused, identified as Neeraj alias Bhattad, was apprehended after a brief exchange of fire with police. According to the SSP, the case was registered on June 15 following a complaint lodged by the bank manager. A joint team comprising local police and the Special Operations Group (SOG) was immediately tasked with investigating the incident.
