Man killed by wife's stepbrother over love marriage in Gonda
LUCKNOW, June 29 -- A 30-year-old man was allegedly murdered by his wife's stepbrother in Gonda district over an alleged long-standing grudge stemming from a love marriage, police said on Sunday.
The victim, Azad Singh, was found with his slit throat late on Saturday night in Chilampur village under Wazirganj police station limits. Police have registered a murder case against two accused-Sandeep Singh, the victim's wife's stepbrother, and Suresh Vishwakarma-and launched a search to arrest them.
Police said Azad had eloped with and married Sandeep's stepsister about one-and-a-half years ago, leading to a long-standing dispute between the two families.
The marriage reportedly triggered a village panchayat and the social boycott of Azad's family, forcing the couple to move to a rented house near Nawabganj Mandi.
According to investigators, Suresh, a common acquaintance, allegedly lured Azad out of his house on Saturday evening and took him to Chilampur village. Before attending a local fun
ction, the two allegedly stopped to consume liquor, where Sandeep joined them. During the gathering, an argument over the marriage allegedly escalated, following which Sandeep attacked Azad with a knife, slitting his throat. Azad died on the spot, while the two accused fled.
Azad's wife, Pinki, said he had left home with Suresh around 7 pm on Saturday and that the family was informed of his death about two hours later.
Additional superintendent of police (West) Radhey Shyam Rai said police rushed to the spot after receiving information about the body and sent it for post-mortem examination. "An FIR has been registered against Sandeep Singh and Suresh Vishwakarma on the complaint of the deceased's mother.
Search operations are underway, and both accused will be arrested soon," he said....
