Man killed by speeding dumper in 'No-Entry' zone in Yamunapar
PRAYAGRAJ, May 17 -- A 28-year-old man was killed and seven others were injured after a speeding dumper, allegedly operating in violation of a 'No-Entry' restriction, rammed into a passenger auto-rickshaw on the Prayagraj-Mirzapur Highway in the Yamunapar region of Prayagraj on Friday night, police said.
The accident occurred near Mardapur Gandhiav village under the Karchhana police station limits.
According to police, the auto-rickshaw, which was carrying passengers from Prayagraj towards Meja, had halted on the road to pick up a passenger when the dumper crashed into it from behind.
The impact threw several passengers onto the road, injuring seven people. Among them were Ritesh Kumar, a resident of Katka village, and his critically injured brother-in-law, Akash Kumar of Delhi. On receiving information, police reached the spot and rushed the injured to a community health centre. Doctors later referred Ritesh to a city hospital due to the severity of his condition, but he died on the way.
The incident triggered anger among local residents, who alleged that the ban on heavy vehicles in the Bhirpur police outpost area is rarely enforced. They claimed that overloaded dumpers frequently ply the route at high speeds despite restrictions, which they attributed to lax monitoring and unofficial arrangements....
