Man held from Rewa over defamatory post on SP chief's daughter
KANPUR, June 23 -- The Kanpur cyber cell police have arrested a man from Madhya Pradesh's Rewa district for allegedly circulating derogatory and morphed content on social media targeting Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav's daughter, police said on Monday.
The accused, identified as Nageshwar Singh Baghel of Rewa, was picked up following a cyber investigation that linked him to the circulation of objectionable material online. He was later produced before a court, DCP (crime) Shravan Kumar Singh said.
According to the complaint, lodged on June 11 by Praveen Yadav, national secretary of the SP Advocates' Wing, the case involves multiple individuals accused of sharing a digitally altered image along with inappropriate remarks on social media platforms.
Acting on the complaint, the police registered a case under provisions of the Information Technology Act and other relevant sections against three people-Baghel, Bharat Patel and Vinod Kumar.
Police said digital tracing and technical analysis helped identify Baghel. During the probe, police also found that the social media account linked to co-accused Bharat Patel was being operated from the United States, reportedly from Pennsylvania.
Vinod Kumar, the third accused, is a resident of Jaunpur and works as an autorickshaw driver. Police said further investigation into the role of all accused is continuing. Officials are now examining cross-border digital activity in the case....
