Man held for killing cousin over affair
LUCKNOW, June 19 -- Police arrested a man for allegedly murdering his cousin, a watchman employed at a Jal Jeevan Mission water tank project in Rae Bareli. Investigators say the case was driven by an alleged extramarital relationship with the victim's wife.
The victim, Binda Prasad, 45, was found dead on a cot at the project site in Thakurain Khera village under Bachhrawan police station limits on Tuesday morning. Police said he was attacked with a sharp-edged weapon while asleep.
According to investigators, the accused, Rajkishore, the victim's cousin, allegedly slit Binda's throat and inflicted multiple injuries on his face and body before fleeing the scene. During the probe, police examined call records and other evidence, which led them to Rajkishore. During questioning, he allegedly confessed to the crime, claiming he had been in a relationship with Binda's wife for nearly three years and considered the victim as an obstacle.
Police said Rajkishore told investigators that he wanted the woman to stay with him but she was unwilling, prompting him to plot the murder. Police recovered the murder weapon, a banka (sharp-edged agricultural weapon), based on the accused's disclosure.
Circle officer Pradeep Kumar said the investigation so far points to the alleged relationship as the primary motive for the killing.
The accused has been booked, produced before a court and sent to judicial custody. Further investigation is underway....
