AGRA, July 4 -- A man in his late twenties was arrested following a police encounter on Friday for allegedly killing his brother-in-law over the latter's interfaith marriage to the accused's sister in Firozabad. Firozabad SP (City) Ravi Shankar Prasad said that Agra resident Devesh, 30, was allegedly beaten to death by his in-laws in Firozabad for marrying their daughter, who belongs to a different religion. His body was recovered on Thursday night. According to information, Devesh had married a Muslim woman he loved and the couple had been living in Agra for the past four months. According to police, the woman's family opposed the interfaith marriage and allegedly lured the newlywed couple to Firozabad on Thursday on the pretext of a meeting, where Devesh was beaten to death. On Friday, Devesh's uncle lodged an FIR at Ramgarh police station, following which a case was registered under Sections 103(1), 65(1) and 115(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in connection with his murder. The SP said multiple police teams were formed to investigate the case. The main accused, identified as Sameer alias Attu, the woman's brother, was later arrested. "The accused opened fire at the police team during the operation. In retaliatory firing, he sustained bullet injuries to both legs and is currently undergoing treatment," he said....
