Man gets life imprisonment for double murder
Agra, June 4 -- A Mathura court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for the double murder of a couple whose bodies were later burnt in an attempt to destroy evidence of the crime.
District and Sessions Judge Vikas Kumar awarded the sentence after finding the accused guilty of murdering the husband and wife and subsequently setting their bodies on fire to conceal the offence.
The matter relates to an incident in 2022 when a missing report was lodged by Hariram Singh at Magorra police station of Mathura on March 23. The complainant had reported that his brother Bheem Singh and his wife Bharti Devi had gone missing. On March 25, 2022, information was received from Magorra police station of Mathura that burnt bodies of a man and a woman was found within jurisdiction of Highway police station in Mathura. The body of Bheem Singh was identified on basis of spectacles and ring while that of Bharti Devi was identified on basis of toe ring (bichia).
A written complaint was lodged at Magorra police station on March 25 accusing one Pawan Kuntal, who was seen taking the couple along in his car on March 19. An FIR was registered on March 26 against Pawan (30), a resident of Bharatpur. Pawan was friend of deceased Bheem Singh and had allegedly taken money from him for getting jobs for his sons. However, Pawan allegedly neither arranged jobs nor returned the money. When Bheem Singh pestered Pawan for his money, Pawan killed both Bheem Singh and Bharti. The court held Pawan Kuntal guilty on May 29, 2026 and sentenced him for life imprisonment on Tuesday....
