Man enters house, jumps from adjoining roof
LUCKNOW, Sept. 15 -- In a bizarre sequence captured on video, a 31-year-old man entered a house in Rajajipuram on Monday morning, made his way to the roof of an adjoining house and then jumped from its second-floor railing despite repeated attempts by locals to stop and counsel him.
"The man died after suffering serious injuries in the fall. He was taken to Rani Lakshmibai Joint Hospital in Rajajipuram, where doctors declared him dead," police said in a statement.
According to police, the man first entered a house through its gate and subsequently reached the roof of the neighbouring house. Residents spotted him and raised an alarm, following which he stood on the railing of the second-floor roof.
A video made by people present at the spot has also been obtained by police. The footage shows the man standing on the second-floor railing for nearly a minute, while people around him repeatedly try to persuade him to come down.
Despite their attempts, he eventually jumps from the roof.
Police statement further said the family told them the man had left home around 6am and that his mental health had not been stable for some time. His father identified the body.
Police are examining the video and questioning people who witnessed the incident to establish the sequence of events and why the man entered the house. The body has been sent for postmortem and further investigation is underway....
