Man drowns in Ganga while making reel in Pratapgarh
Prayagraj, June 1 -- A 45-year-old man from Raebareli drowned in the Ganga while making a social media reel under Manikpur police station of Pratapgarh on Sunday morning. The deceased, Manoj Kumar Maurya, slipped from a mound near a temporary ghat in Shahabad after losing his balance while filming a social media reel and was swept away by strong currents.
Maurya, who lived in Lucknow and ran a coaching centre, had arrived in Raebareli a day earlier. On Sunday, he visited his ancestral village with two friends, Dheeraj Mishra and Prashant Kumar, before heading to the river to bathe. While recording a reel and taking selfies, he accidentally fell into deep water and drowned.
Police, stationed at the ghat due to a Purnima fair, immediately launched a rescue operation. Divers and boats were pressed into service, and fishing nets were later used. His body was recovered about four hours later downstream.
The incident triggered panic at the ghat, drawing large crowds. Police have seized the phones of his companions and are questioning them. The body has been sent for post-mortem after completion of formalities.htc...
