Lucknow, Aug. 11 -- A 41-year-old insurance agent drowned in a canal in Lucknow's Manak Nagar area on Monday after the motorcycle he was riding with his eight-year-old daughter allegedly lost balance and crashed into a damaged portion of a culvert, police said. As per police, the deceased was identified as Ravi Kushwaha, a resident of Khushi Vihar in Krishnanagar. He was returning home with his daughter Vanshika, a Class 3 student at Avadh Collegiate School, when the accident occurred around 11am. According to eyewitnesses, a truck suddenly approached from the opposite direction on the service lane. Ravi reportedly applied the front brake, following which the motorcycle slipped and hit stones at the culvert. The impact threw him into the canal, while Vanshika fell towards the road and sustained minor injuries. Vanshika told police that her father went directly into the canal while she remained on the road with the motorcycle. Ravi reportedly tried to get out but was swept away by the strong current. People present at the spot called the emergency helpline 112. Some alleged that police initially said that divers were unavailable and that the spot did not fall under their jurisdiction, leading to an angry reaction from those present. Police later reached the spot along with personnel from Manak Nagar and Alambagh police stations and alerted the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF). The SDRF team arrived around 1pm and began the search. Ravi was pulled out of the canal about 20 metres from the accident spot and taken to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
