Man dies in celebratory firing, accused arrested
PRAYAGRAJ, July 1 -- A 24-year-old man was killed after a bullet fired during a celebratory firing at a family function struck him in Prayagraj's Karchana area late on Monday night.
The incident took place in Niriya village under the Bhunda police outpost limits when a gathering was celebrating the birth of a child in the family.
According to police, Anup Yadav, a resident of Niriya village, had become a father a month ago.
A function was organised at his residence on Monday evening, with several relatives and guests in attendance.
Among those present were Anup's cousins Vijay Kumar Yadav, a resident of Newai village, and Sarvesh Yadav alias Golu. During the celebrations, Vijay allegedly fired from his licenced revolver.
The bullet hit Sarvesh, causing panic among the guests.
Family members immediately rushed the injured Sarvesh to Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital (SRNH) where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
According to police, family members were allegedly returning with the body without informing the police and were accompanied by Vijay, the man accused of firing the shot. After receiving information about the incident, police intercepted them near Parade Ground and detained the accused.
Rajendra Prasad, father of the deceased, later lodged a complaint alleging that Vijay's gunfire led to his son's death. Police have arrested Vijay Kumar Yadav and seized his licenced revolver. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
ACP (Karchana) Sunil Singh said preliminary investigation revealed that celebratory firing during the family function resulted in the youth's death. He said a case has been registered and further legal action is being taken....
