Man dies by suicide six days after wife's death
PRAYAGRAJ, Oct. 5 -- A 55-year-old man allegedly died by suicide by consuming a poisonous substance in Pratapgarh on Sunday, six days after his wife died, reportedly of a heart attack.
The man, a resident of a village under Mandhata police station, consumed the poisonous substance at his home on Sunday morning. His condition deteriorated and family members rushed him to the Government Medical College hospital, where he died during treatment shortly after being admitted.
His wife had died suddenly on September 29. Her family members had said she died of a heart attack and were in the process of completing her post-death rituals.
The family took the man's body home without getting a postmortem examination conducted and later cremated it at Shringverpur, police said.
Mandhata station house officer Dhananjay Rai said police reached the man's house after receiving information from the hospital, but by then the family had already taken the body for cremation. The couple had three sons and three daughters....
