Man dies after slitting own throat at highway eatery in Hapur
Meerut, March 7 -- A halt at a roadside eatery along a highway in Uttar Pradesh's Hapur district turned into a shocking incident on Thursday night when a 23-year-old man allegedly slit his throat inside the outlet and later died after falling under a passing vehicle. Police said the man, who worked as a barber at a salon in Delhi, was travelling from the national capital to his hometown in Bareilly in a shared taxi.
According to officials, the taxi stopped at a roadside "chicken point" eatery on the highway in the Garhmukteshwar area. The man got out of the vehicle and entered the eatery. Inside the outlet, he allegedly picked up a knife kept there and slit his throat. Police said that after the incident, the man ran out of the shop towards the highway. Devendra Bisht, station house officer of Garhmukteshwar police station, said police reached the spot after receiving information and rushed the injured man to a nearby hospital. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival. Police have informed the family and sent the body for a post-mortem examination.
Officials said it is not yet clear why the man stopped at the eatery or what led him to take the extreme step. Police said they launched an investigation to find out the circumstances behind the incident....
