Man climbs transmission tower after family opposes marriage, rescued
PRAYAGRAJ, July 8 -- A 24-year-old man climbed a high-voltage transmission tower in Pilkhua village under Mauaima police station limits on Tuesday morning, allegedly after his family opposed his marriage to his girlfriend.
Following nearly four hours of counselling, police persuaded him to come down safely.
Shyam Babu of Rozihat village, had told his family he was leaving for Mumbai for work but instead climbed a high-voltage transmission tower at around 5 am.
After hours of counselling, police persuaded him to come down safely at 9.30 am. Police said he had been in a relationship with a teenage girl he met while teaching at a coaching centre.
A family dispute over the relationship had earlier been settled at a police station.
Police also recovered clothes and a handwritten letter mentioning their plans for work, marriage and living together....
