PRAYAGRAJ, Sept. 16 -- Police have registered a case against a man on a court order for allegedly setting fire to a cattle shed due to an old land dispute, in which a cow and a buffalo were killed in Pratapgarh's Kandhai area. The FIR was registered on Monday over the March 12 incident after complainant Ashok Kumar Saroj of Bharthipur village approached the court, alleging that police had failed to register his complaint. According to Ashok, he had gone to a relative's wedding, leaving his elderly mother and daughter at home. Around 12.30am, neighbour Vijay Saroj allegedly arrived with a stick, abused the family and threatened to set their house on fire over the land dispute. When the family did not come out, Vijay allegedly set fire to a thatched cattle shed outside the house, where a cow and a buffalo were tied. Villagers rushed to the spot after hearing the family's cries and doused the flames. The cow died in the fire, while the severely injured buffalo succumbed later that day.Ashok alleged that he approached Kandhai police and the SP office several times, but no FIR was registered.Kandhai SHO Aditya Singh said an FIR had been registered against Vijay Saroj on the court's order.
