Man booked for posting morphed photo, demanding ransom
Prayagraj, April 29 -- District police in Kaushambi have registered a case against a man for allegedly using AI tools to morph a young woman's photograph into obscene content, posting it on Instagram, and demanding Rs.2 lakh from her family to remove it.
According to the Karari station, the accused, identified as Shajid Khan from Supaul district in Bihar, allegedly obtained the victim's photograph and used artificial intelligence-based editing tools to create objectionable images. He then reportedly circulated the edited images through a fake Instagram account.
The victim's father alleged that the accused is now demanding Rs.2 lakh as ransom for deleting the content. He further stated that the accused has been continuously threatening the family through messages on WhatsApp and Instagram.
In addition, the accused allegedly warned that if the girl gets married, he would shoot her husband during the wedding ceremony, particularly at the time of the garland exchange (jaimala). To intimidate the family further, he is also said to have sent images of illegal weapons.
The victim's family claims that due to the ongoing harassment, they are facing severe social embarrassment, and the girl's marriage proposals have been affected....
