GORAKHPUR, Aug. 31 -- A dispute over an alleged Rs.400 payment for country-made liquor ended in the death of a 27-year-old man in Gorakhpur on Saturday evening after he was allegedly assaulted at a market under the Gulriha police station area. Police arrested one person following a complaint by the deceased's wife. The deceased was identified as Mewalal Prajapati, a resident of Gonaha Tola Sendhwa under the Paniyara police station area. According to his wife Raj Mati's complaint, Mewalal had gone to the market around 5 pm along with his son Ansh and son-in-law. There, he allegedly consumed country-made liquor sold by Ramkesh Nishad, a resident of Jungle Sakhni Tola Rohua. A dispute reportedly broke out between Mewalal and Nishad over an outstanding payment of Rs.400.Raj Mati alleged that Nishad assaulted Mewalal in the presence of his son and son-in-law, leaving him critically injured. The family informed police through Dial 112. A police team reached the spot and took Mewalal to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead, according to the complaint.
