LUCKNOW, July 27 -- A 60-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death by his 36-year-old alcoholic son after refusing to give him money to buy more liquor in Balrampur district late Saturday night, police said. The accused allegedly also attacked his mother with a brick when she tried to save her husband, leaving her seriously injured. The incident took place at Lal Chauraha in Tulsipur. Police arrested the accused, identified as Pintu, from the spot. The deceased was identified as Kallu, who worked in making and repairing truck leaf springs. His sons also assisted him in the business. According to police and family members, Pintu was addicted to alcohol and frequent disputes had taken place in the family over his drinking habit. Owing to his behaviour, Kallu had recently stopped him from working at the shop, leading to strained relations between the father and son. Police said Pintu allegedly returned home drunk on Saturday night and demanded money from his father to buy more liquor. When Kallu refused, an argument allegedly escalated into a violent scuffle. During the altercation, Pintu allegedly picked up a stick and repeatedly assaulted his father. Hearing Kallu's cries for help, his wife, Phoolmati, rushed to intervene. Police said the accused allegedly attacked her with a brick, seriously injuring her. Local residents intervened and prevented him from fleeing before alerting the police. Both victims were rushed to the Community Health Centre, where doctors declared Kallu dead on arrival. Phoolmati was referred to the district hospital after primary treatment because of the severity of her injuries. Family members said Pintu's wedding had been scheduled to take place in about two months, and preparations were already underway before the incident shattered the family's plans. Police said an FIR has been registered on the complaint of the deceased's family, and the accused remains in custody....
