Man accused of running fake diplomatic mission granted bail
PRAYAGRAJ, April 16 -- The Allahabad high court has granted bail to Harshvardhan Jain, who was allegedly operating an illegal diplomatic mission from a rented house in Ghaziabad's Kavi Nagar locality.
Justice Ashutosh Srivastava allowed the bail plea of Jain, against whom an FIR was registered alleging that he ran an embassy illegally by hoisting flags of multiple countries, using diplomatic number plates on vehicles, and allegedly defrauding individuals through the setup.
In its April 2 order, the court said, "Considering all those facts and circumstances, the nature of accusations, severity of the punishment in the case of conviction and nature of supporting evidence, reasonable apprehension of tampering with the witness and prima facie case, but without commenting on merit of case, a case for bail is made out. Accordingly, the bail application is allowed."
Amitabh Yash, additional director general of UP police (law and order) said, Jain allegedly posed as a consul or ambassador of non-existent countries such as Westarctica, Saborga, Poulvia and Lodonia. He was also found with 34 counterfeit seals of various countries and companies, according to reports....
