Man, minor son detained ninedays after 8-yr-old injured
MEERUT, March 1 -- Nine days after an eight-year-old boy was critically injured in celebratory firing during a wedding ritual in Bulandshahr district, police have detained a man, Robin Verma, and his minor son for questioning, officials said on Saturday.
According to reports, the incident occurred on February 19 during the 'bhat' ceremony at Verma's daughter's wedding, when the minor allegedly fired shots from his father's licensed pistol. One of the bullets struck Reyansh Soni, son of Himanshu Verma, who was standing on the roof of a nearby house. The child is currently in a coma and on ventilator support at a private hospital in Noida.
A video of the incident went viral on social media, purportedly showing the minor firing the shots.
CCTV footage also reportedly captured family members rushing the injured child to hospital after he was hit.
Based on a complaint filed by the victim's family, police registered a case against both the minor and his father. The two, who had been absconding since the incident, have now been taken into custody, police said. According to SP (City) Shankar Prasad, legal proceedings are underway and further action will be taken based on the outcome of the interrogation....
