Mall-side skywalk project on Shaheed Path cleared
LUCKNOW, June 12 -- The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has approved the construction of a 100-metre-long skywalk near a mall on Shaheed Path, marking a major step towards improving pedestrian safety and creating a new urban landmark along one of the city's busiest roads.
The project, estimated to cost around Rs 18 crore, will be executed under the public-private partnership (PPP) model, with the entire expenditure being borne by a private company.
LDA vice-chairman Prathamesh Kumar approved the proposal during a meeting held on Thursday, where officials gave a presentation on the project and received clearance to begin construction.
Officials said the five-metre-wide foot overbridge will provide safe and barrier-free movement for pedestrians crossing Shaheed Path, which witnesses heavy vehicular traffic throughout the day.
The facility will include lifts in addition to staircases, ensuring easy access for senior citizens, women and persons with disabilities.
The authority has also planned to develop the project as an integrated urban space rather than a conventional foot overbridge. Under the proposal, about 1,200 square metres of landscaped green area will come up at the ground level along with kiosks, interactive public spaces, toilets and parking facilities.
Commercial spaces will be created on the ground, mezzanine and first floors, while the rooftop will feature an open-air restaurant and LED screens, giving the structure an iconic identity.
Prathamesh Kumar said the design prioritises safety and incorporates anti-skid flooring, robust railings, CCTV surveillance, adequate lighting, fire-resistant electrical fittings and earthquake-resistant features. The structure will also have fire safety equipment, a public address system and first-aid facilities....
