Main accused in Sisendi double murder held after encounter
Lucknow, March 11 -- The main accused in the sensational double murder in Sisendi village in Mohanlalganj on February 9 was arrested after a police encounter late on Wednesday night, officials said. A policeman was also injured in the exchange of fire.
The accused, identified as Kishan Rawat, a Sisendi resident, allegedly raped the woman and later strangled her and her son to death. Police had launched an intensive search operation after discovering the bodies earlier.
According to DCP (south) Nipun Agarwal, a team led by the station house officer of Mohanlalganj, along with surveillance and field units, traced the accused and moved to intercept him.
As police closed in, Rawat allegedly opened fire while trying to escape.
"Police retaliated in self-defence, during which the accused sustained a bullet injury in his leg and was overpowered," Agarwal said.
Senior officers, including additional DCP Rallapalli Vasanth Kumar and ACP Vikas Pandey, reached the spot.
Police said preliminary investigation also revealed a financial dispute between the accused and the victim woman. Rawat had allegedly lent her some money and had been repeatedly asking for its return.
"He had gone to the house to demand the money. Based on the investigation so far, relevant sections, including those related to rape have been added to the FIR, and samples have been sent," Agarwal said....
