Lucknow swimmers shine in style
LUCKNOW, Sept. 7 -- Hosts Lucknow swimmers produced a commanding performance to clinch the State Underwater and Finswimming Championship at the KD Singh 'Babu' Stadium pool on Sunday, finishing well ahead of challengers from Varanasi. Lucknow amassed 371 points to Varanasi's 283, sealing top honours in a competitive meet that also served as the selection platform for the state squad bound for the national championship in Pune later this month.
Narendra Singh Chauhan, General Secretary of the Uttar Pradesh Underwater Sports Association, confirmed that the state team will be chosen based on results from this championship, with the final lineup to be announced shortly.
The selected squad will represent Uttar Pradesh at the national championship starting in Pune on September 29, where athletes will aim to convert strong state-level form into national success.
Alongside the finswimming results, the swimming events showcased strong performances from city clubs. LPS Gomti Nagar dominated several categories and clinched the prestigious KNP Kapoor Trophy in Boys Group 1 with 39 points. The club's depth also shone across other boys' divisions: LPC Gomti Nagar won the Boys Group 2 Rama Singh Trophy with 38 points and took Boys Group 3's K.N. Jaitley Trophy with 33 points. LPC Bakshi Ka Talab claimed the Boys Group 4 Munna Lal Yadav Trophy, scoring 24 points.
Female swimmers delivered equally impressive displays. LPC Gomti Nagar swept Girls Group 1 and Group 2, winning the Mohammad Haider Trophy (33 points) and the Vijay Bose Trophy (31 points) respectively. Study Hall emerged victorious in Girls Group 3, taking the R.S. Mishra Trophy with 31 points. La Martiniere Girls topped Girls Group 4, earning the V.P. Kapoor Trophy after a standout showing that brought them 39 points....
