Lucknow's Adya wins bronze in Asian karate c'ship
LUCKNOW, July 21 -- Adya Chauhan, a young athlete from Lucknow, delivered an impressive performance to win a bronze medal at the South Asian Karate Championship held in Bangladesh. Alongside her achievement, athletes from Lucknow won one gold, one silver, and two bronze medals.
Adya won the bronze medal in the girls' sub-junior kumite (above 55 kg) category during the 10th cadet, junior, under-21, and senior South Asian Karate Championship and the 2nd under-14 South Asia Karate Cup. These events were organized by the Bangladesh Karate Federation under the aegis of the World Karate Federation and the Asian Karate Federation.
Jaspal Singh, general secretary of the Karate Association of UP, stated that Adya Chauhan's medal is a source of pride for Uttar Pradesh. He remarked that the athletes from Lucknow showcased their talent brilliantly through their outstanding performance in the championship. He further noted that prior to this, Lucknow's athletes had won a gold medal in the boys' junior team kata event, in addition to securing silver and bronze medals in individual events.
Young Abhinandan Jaiswal logged on full six points to emerge victorious in the under-6 category of the Spark64 All India Youth Chess Talent Hunt 2026, at the KD Singh Babu Stadium on the occasion of International Chess Day here.
Besides Jaiswal, Viti Mittal (Under 8, 6.5 pts), Advik Shukla (Under 10, 6.5 pts), Abhigyan Katiyar (Under 12, 7 pts), Daksh Malik and Abhyuday Raj Singh (Under 14, 5.5 pts each), Shubh Srivastava (Under 16, 6 pts), Aabhas Kumar Srivastava (Under 18, 7 pts) and Saransh Shukla (Under 20, 6 pts) also won titles.
Siblings Advika and Archit Tiwari, Ojas and Satvik Anand (Prayagraj), Arjun Garg, Divit Patel, Atharv Sarin Shukla, Rudra Pratap Singh, Aradhy Agarwal, Rudraansh Shukla and Abhijay Mishra impressed everyone with their attacking play.
Divyanshu netted a hattrick in the District Football League on Monday as Lucknow Arrows Club defeated TFA (B) 6-1, at the Chowk Stadium here. Divyanshu struck in the 14th, 16th, and 41st minutes, whereas Remo, Nitish and Vishal shared three goals between them. For TFA (B), Alfaz scored a goal in the third minute. In the second LDA (A) Asha Club defeated Aliganj Warrior Club 2-0. Priyanshu Verma scored both the goals....
