LUCKNOW, Sept. 27 -- Office-bearers of the Lucknow University Associated Colleges Teachers' Association (LUACTA) have opposed the revised fee structure introduced by Lucknow University for affiliated colleges for the 2026-27 academic session on September 17, calling it arbitrary and unjustified. In a letter to vice-chancellor Prof JP Saini dated September 26, LUACTA president Manoj Pandey and general secretary Anshu Kedia raised objections to several fee heads. They said the university already charges Rs 100 per student under the LURN process and Rs 500 as enrolment fee, making the proposed Rs 250 per semester registration fee unjustified. "Registration of a student happens once, why charge thrice?" they said. On the Rs 50 annual ranger/rover fee, the association cited a November 14, 2022, letter from the director of higher education, which fixes the fee at Rs 50, including a Rs 10 university share. It said colleges without ranger/rover units, or those unwilling to operate them, should not be forced to collect the fee from all students. LUACTA also objected to the Rs 100-per-semester alumni fee, saying students are alumni of their respective colleges, and the Rs 100 practical/viva fee, as practical examinations are conducted by college teachers using college-funded equipment. "Similarly, Rs 300 per student for internship and processing fee is beyond understanding; if taken, it should go to college teachers," Pandey said, adding that colleges already face shortages while meeting expenses such as electricity, water, internet, stationery, libraries and sports. The association also opposed Rs 100 for marksheets and Rs 50 for university sports, saying colleges already conduct sports activities. "With the last date for exam form submission declared, we urge immediate reconsideration. If unjustified hikes under different heads are not withdrawn, the association will be forced to agitate," Kedia said.
