LU students' protest enters day five, draws support from political parties
LUCKNOW, June 7 -- The indefinite protest by students at Lucknow University against the expulsion of students and the fee hikes entered its fifth day on Saturday without any significant breakthrough.
However, the agitation continued to draw support from political leaders and student representatives from various organisations. Leaders from the Samajwadi Party and the Congress, along with former student union representatives, visited the protest site and expressed solidarity with the agitating students.
A delegation including Ayodhya MP Awadhesh Prasad, and former MP PL Punia met the protesting students and expressed concern over the filing of FIRs and the expulsion of students involved in the movement.
They said that it is unfortunate that the students were being portrayed as criminals for raising their voices through democratic means. According to them, instead of resorting to punitive action, the university administration should engage in dialogue with students and work towards a constructive resolution.
Former LU Students' Union president Ramesh Srivastava also joined the agitation and sat in protest against the university administration, expressing solidarity with the protesting students. Students from various student organisations also supported the students in the protest....
