LU convocation: HoDs, deans askedto send names for various medals
LUCKNOW, July 10 -- Ahead of its convocation ceremony scheduled for July 31, Lucknow University (LU) has asked heads of departments, deans and principals of colleges affiliated to it to send names of students for various medals latest by July 15.
The Ancient Indian History (AIH) department has been asked to recommend names of students for the Gopaldas Memorial Medal awarded to the best PhD or DLitt thesis and the Sardar Bahadur Major GC Dikshit Memorial Gold Medal given to a woman candidate for the best PhD or DLitt thesis.
Likewise, the zoology department has been directed to recommend the name of a student for the Dr Gobind Singh Thapar Memorial Gold Medal' which recognises the university's best research work or thesis in the field of helminthology.
Similarly, the political science department has been asked to nominate a candidate for the Silver Jubilee Gold Medal conferred on a student with the best research work. Exceptional research in some departments will receive memorial prizes. The psychology department has been directed to finalise the name for Prof Kali Prasad Memorial Research Prize awarded to the best DLitt or PhD thesis.
The botany department is actively reviewing work for the Ruchi Ram Sahni Research Prize for the best research work. The registrar has also directed the authorities to select suitable candidates for the Bonarjee Research Prize-an award evaluated by a specialised Board of Examiners for original research contributions from PhD, DLitt, DSc and LLD candidates.
Besides, names for the Smt Guru Devi Gold Medal-awarded to the best woman candidate obtaining a doctorate degree-have also been sought. The Lucknow University Athletic Association chairman has been asked to submit recommendations for the Raja Shanker Sahai of Maurawan Gold Medal which honours students who strike a perfect balance between an outstanding academic record and an exemplary athletic history in the last session....
