Lucknow, Aug. 6 -- Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MLA from Rasra Assembly constituency in Ballia district, Umashankar Singh (55), died on Wednesday after battling cancer. A three-time MLA, Singh was the lone BSP member in the UP Legislative Assembly and served as the leader of the BSP legislature party. In March last year, BSP chief Mayawati had visited his Gomti Nagar residence to enquire about his health. Chief minister Yogi Adityanath, Mayawati, Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav were among those who expressed deep condolences over Singh's demise.
