Locals stage road blockade over advocate's death, over 150 booked
PRAYAGRAJ, Nov. 3 -- Police have registered a case against the family of a deceased advocate and around 100-150 unidentified persons for allegedly blocking a road by placing his body at a busy intersection in Kunda.
According to police, sub-inspector Rajkumar of Kunda Kotwali lodged the complaint in connection with the incident. The matter stems from a dispute over a pathway between Mukhtar Ahmed, a resident of Darjiyana Barai village, and Mohammad Shamim on October 27. During the clash, Mukhtar's brother Ashik Ali, an advocate, sustained serious injuries and later died during treatment on October 30.
The following day, family members of Ali, along with around 100-150 supporters, allegedly placed his body at the Tehsil intersection and staged a road blockade. The protest disrupted traffic for nearly two-and-a-half hours, causing inconvenience to schoolchildren, devotees heading to the Mangarh temple, and other commuters.
Police said the blockade was lifted only after prolonged efforts by the administration, following which the family members took the body for last rites. Officials said those involved in the blockade are being identified and further action will follow.
