LMC ropes in residents to monitor drain-cleaning works
LUCKNOW, June 12 -- The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) has involved local residents in monitoring drain-cleaning works across the city, directing officials to collect citizen feedback on the quality of desilting as part of efforts to improve accountability and monsoon preparedness. Acting on the directions of municipal commissioner Gaurav Kumar, additional municipal commissioners Abhinav Ranjan Srivastava and Arvind Kumar Rao inspected ongoing drain-cleaning works in Zones 7 and 8 on Thursday.
In Zone 7, Srivastava reviewed desilting works near the mini stadium, the Sector-25 stretch and Barrel No. 3 near the Shaktinagar slope. He instructed officials to clean drains up to the bottom level and remove covers wherever required to ensure thorough desilting. He also directed them to reinstall covers after completing the work.
To strengthen public oversight, Srivastava asked officials to obtain feedback from at least two local residents in every area where cleaning is being carried out and maintain records of their responses. He further directed that silt removed from drains be lifted immediately and not left along roadsides or near drains.
In Zone 8, Rao inspected desilting works in Transport Nagar, Rajnikhand, Ratankhand and areas around Lokbandhu crossing and CRPF establishments. He instructed the executive engineer to repair damaged chambers and ensure drains are cleaned properly up to the bottom....
