LUCKNOW, June 16 -- The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) has received a formal letter from the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) and halted work on the proposed model vending zone on Kanpur road until objections raised by the authority are addressed. Confirming the development on Monday, municipal commissioner Gaurav Kumar said the civic body had already stopped the work and would resume construction only after clearing the concerns flagged by the LDA. "The work has been halted. It will start only after the objections are resolved," he said. The development comes amid mounting opposition to the project near Gautam Buddha Shanti Upvan Park in Sector H and follows a series of Hindustan Times reports highlighting concerns over traffic congestion, emergency access and the impact on public spaces. In a letter signed by LDA chief engineer Manvendra Kumar Singh on Friday, the authority directed the municipal corporation not to develop vending zones around parks on Kanpur Road. The LDA said the proposed structures would surround the adjoining park from all sides, obstruct fresh air circulation and adversely affect the environment. The authority also objected to the removal of the footpath to accommodate permanent structures, warning that reduced pedestrian space could increase the risk of accidents. Residents had earlier raised objections to the project and staged a protest at the site on June 10. Vidyawati ward III corporator Nirmala Singh had also opposed the proposal, citing concerns over traffic congestion and obstruction to ambulances and other emergency vehicles, earlier reported by HT.
