Lko traffic police cracks whip on vehicle dealers
LUCKNOW, July 1 -- The Lucknow traffic police has directed two-, three- and four-wheeler dealerships not to hand over newly sold vehicles unless they have valid registration and the prescribed high security registration plate (HSRP), after noticing instances of unregistered vehicles being delivered to customers and found plying on roads.
The advisory, issued by DCP (traffic) Raveena Tyagi, cites Section 39 of Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and relevant provisions of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, which prohibit the use of unregistered vehicles on public roads and bar trade certificate holders from delivering vehicles without temporary or permanent registration.
"Dealers have been asked to release vehicles only after completing registration and HSRP formalities, strengthen internal checks, maintain records related to registration and vehicle delivery, train staff handling sales and handovers, and inform customers that driving an unregistered vehicle on public roads is illegal," said Tyagi.
The traffic police said enforcement drives against vehicles without valid registration marks or prescribed number plates will continue across Lucknow.
"During such drives, authorities may also examine the circumstances under which a vehicle was released by a dealership. If repeated or systemic lapses are found in dealership procedures, the matter may be referred to the transport department and other competent authorities for action under the law," the DCP added.
The police also urged buyers to verify that their new vehicle has a valid registration number and the prescribed HSRP before taking delivery, saying the requirements are essential for legal compliance, road safety, vehicle traceability and effective crime investigation....
