Lucknow, Aug. 12 -- Lucknow Police held an awareness workshop at Hygia Group of Institutions, on Tuesday, with college students increasingly exposed to cyber fraud, social media misuse and substance abuse. It urged students to be alert both in the digital world and in real-life situations. Around 170 students participated in the programme organised by the Crime Branch's cyber and drug de-addiction awareness initiative. Additional DCP (Crime) Kiran Yadav addressed the students and stressed the need to report uncomfortable or suspicious situations instead of remaining silent. The session covered ragging, personal and women's safety, cybercrime, responsible social media use and drug abuse. Students were told that ragging should not be dismissed as a joke and that intimidation, humiliation or physical or mental harassment of juniors was unacceptable. Police also discussed situations such as seniors calling juniors late at night or pressuring them into activities that make them uncomfortable, advising students to immediately approach parents, teachers, institutional authorities or police. On cyber safety, students were warned against clicking suspicious links or sharing OTPs, passwords, banking details and other personal information. They were also advised against accepting unknown friend requests and making private information such as phone numbers, locations and college details public on social media. Students were informed about Zero FIR, e-FIR, Pink Booths and women's help desks. They were also given helpline details, including 1930 for cyber fraud and 1933 (MANAS) for information related to narcotics.
