LUCKNOW, July 25 -- The Lucknow Police Commissionerate has renewed public outreach for a special cell constituted to receive and monitor complaints against alleged criminal elements posing as advocates and engaging in illegal property-related activities. The special cell was constituted in December 2023 following directions issued by the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad high court in connection with a criminal writ petition. In compliance with the court's order, the police commissioner had appointed the Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) as the nodal officer for the cell. According to a press statement issued on Friday, the cell monitors complaints against alleged offenders who, under the guise of being lawyers, are accused of forming organised groups to illegally grab land, houses, plots and other properties, besides indulging in other criminal activities. Police said that although awareness about the cell had been carried out earlier through newspapers, electronic media and social media, complaints against such alleged fake advocates continue to be received, making it necessary to publicise the facility again. The special cell functions from Room No. 36 in the office of the Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order). It is headed by sub-inspector Rameshwar Tiwari, who has been designated as the in-charge of the cell. "People facing criminal activities by persons allegedly impersonating advocates can submit written complaints directly at the cell.
