Life sentence for woman who blinded husband in acid attack
Meerut, June 4 -- A fast-track court in Sambhal sentenced a woman to life imprisonment for throwing acid on her husband after he allegedly found her with another man. The court imposed a fine of Rs.1.76 lakh and ordered that the entire amount be paid to the victim as compensation.
Before pronouncing the verdict, the court made sharp observations on the sanctity of marriage, stating that when the very person entrusted with preserving trust and commitment in a marital relationship betrays those values, the impact extends beyond the couple and shakes the foundations of the family and society.
"The law cannot remain a silent spectator in such circumstances," the court observed.
According to special public prosecutor Narendra Kumar Yadav, the fast-track court, in its 60-page judgment, noted that the accused, Kahkashan, had developed an illicit relationship with another man. When a dispute arose between her and her husband over the affair, she reacted by throwing acid on him.
The court observed that the attack not only plunged the victim's life into misery but also robbed him of his eyesight and permanently disfigured his face. The judgment described the victim's condition as akin to a "living death," noting that severe burns had damaged his nose, ears, mouth, head and facial skin.
The court further remarked that the victim had lost not only his vision but also his physical identity and independence, leaving him with a life of suffering. The case stems from an incident that took place on March 7, 2025, in Sambhal district.
The complaint was filed on March 24, 2025, by Nazuk, the victim's sister, before the superintendent of police. She stated that her brother, Muzaffar Ali, operated an inverter battery business and lived with his family in the Badaun Darwaza locality near Bulbuli Wali Mosque in Sambhal. The couple had two children.
According to the complaint, Kahkashan frequently quarrelled with her husband and had fallen into bad company. She allegedly demanded a divorce, a move supported by members of her family. Nazuk also alleged that Kahkashan's relatives had repeatedly threatened Muzaffar with dire consequences.
The prosecution alleged that on the night of March 6, 2025, Muzaffar Ali was served food laced with intoxicants. The following morning, he woke up and allegedly found his wife inside the house with an unidentified man.
As Muzaffar regained consciousness, the unidentified individual fled the scene. According to the prosecution, Kahkashan then picked up a bucket containing acid and hurled it at her husband's face with the intention of killing him....
