LESA staff seek PAC protection as protests turn violent, write to DGP
Lucknow, July 1 -- Escalating public anger over prolonged power outages in Lucknow has prompted the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) to seek armed security at two substations after a series of violent incidents targeting employees.
According to a letter written by chief engineer LESA, Amausi zone, Ram Kumar to the DGP, anti-social elements have repeatedly entered the Amausi and Utraitia substations at night, intimidated employees and obstructed restoration work. The department has sought PAC deployment to ensure the safety of field staff.
Sub-divisional officer Anil Kumar said employees have been facing physical assaults for several consecutive nights while attempting to restore supply.
According to officials, groups of people, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, have been entering substations at night, creating disturbances and preventing technical staff from carrying out repairs.
Power disruptions continued across other parts of the city on Tuesday as well.
A cable connected to the Gudamba GPRA substation reportedly caught fire near a transformer at Janakipuram's Four Number Chauraha around 10 pm on Monday, affecting supply in adjoining localities.
Separately, power supply from the RCM substation's Ghaila feeder remained suspended between 11 pm and 2 am on Monday-Tuesday....
