Bahraich, Sept. 20 -- Hours after an elderly woman was killed in a leopard attack near the Katarniaghat Sanctuary, a man was injured when a leopard entered his house and attacked him while he was asleep in Sujauli village, triggering panic among residents. The incident occurred late Friday night when the leopard grabbed Baliram through the mosquito net while he was sleeping on a cot. The animal dragged him nearly 10 metres towards a drain before his screams alerted his family. As villagers gathered and raised an alarm, the leopard fled towards the forest. Baliram was rushed to PHC Sujauli by villagers, including village head Rajesh Gupta. After first aid, doctors referred him to CHC Motipur in view of his serious injuries. Sujauli forest range officer Neeraj Srivastava visited the hospital and later inspected the spot with forest officials and villagers. The forest department fired crackers and conducted patrolling to drive the leopard away from the habitation. Officials said a cage would soon be installed to capture the animal. The department provided Rs.5,000 in immediate financial assistance to the victim's family and urged residents to remain particularly cautious at night and avoid venturing outside alone. The latest attack has heightened concern in villages adjoining the Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary, where three people have lost their lives in recent leopard attacks, while several others have sustained injuries....
