BAHRAICH, Sept. 16 -- The Forest Department on Tuesday rescued a leopard and two crocodiles from separate locations in the Katarniaghat Wildlife Division, averting potential human-wildlife conflict. In the Motipur Range, a nearly 10-year-old male leopard weighing around 50-55 kg was rescued at about 5:15 am from an abandoned Irrigation Department store in Ward No. 6 of Adarsh Nagar Panchayat, Mihinpurwa, divisional forest officer (DFO) Apoorv Dixit said. The leopard had reportedly been sighted repeatedly in and around the unused premises, while videos of it moving along the compound walls had also circulated on social media. As the premises was close to a densely populated area, the Forest Department had installed a cage to prevent any possible conflict. The leopard was shifted to the Forest Department's safe house after being rescued, where it underwent a veterinary examination. In another operation, a crocodile that had entered a house in Pairua village under the Kakraha Range was rescued. Similarly, another crocodile that had been repeatedly entering the densely populated area of Mihinpurwa Nagar Panchayat was safely trapped on Tuesday morning before being released into a suitable natural habitat. Forest officials said rising water levels during the ongoing flood season were forcing crocodiles and other wildlife to move out of their usual habitats....
