PRAYAGRAJ, June 6 -- A lekhpal from Sadar Tehsil was allegedly manhandled on Thursday while attempting to halt unauthorised construction on disputed land in Sarai Begum Rasulpur. The site, currently at the centre of a legal dispute, is suspected to be part of a graveyard. The incident occurred when a revenue team arrived to inspect the location following a formal complaint. Tensions flared during the inspection, prompting an immediate report to SDM (Sadar) Abhishek Kumar Singh. Upon the SDM's directive, police personnel from the Transport Nagar outpost and Dhoomanganj police station arrived at the scene and successfully halted the construction work. Official records indicate the dispute concerns Plot No 24. A land survey conducted approximately five years ago categorised the plot as part of a graveyard. However, a subsequent report by then-posted Lekhpal Sudhir classified the land as Bhumidhari (private agricultural land). The discrepancy between these reports fueled the current conflict, with opposing parties contesting the land's status. Following the receipt of the latest complaint, SDM Abhishek Kumar Singh directed the current lekhpal, Manish Yadav, to conduct a thorough inquiry. During the investigation, it was discovered that Sudhir's report lacked official endorsement or verification from the Tehsildar or the SDM. Given these irregularities, Yadav ordered an immediate cessation of all construction activities pending a formal inquiry. The move reportedly incited aggression from the individuals undertaking the construction, who manhandled the lekhpal. When Yadav attempted to mediate, he faced further hostility from the opposing party as well. SDM Abhishek Kumar Singh confirmed that preliminary observations suggest the land belongs to the graveyard. "Both reports submitted by the lekhpals will be thoroughly examined," Singh stated. "Strict instructions have been issued to maintain the status quo at the site until the investigation is concluded."...
