LDA revives action against Aliganj building, raises questions over past approvals
LUCKNOW, June 24 -- A day after the deadly Aliganj fire, the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) on Tuesday issued a fresh notice over alleged building violations, reviving questions over how a structure approved for residential use continued to function as a commercial complex despite facing demolition proceedings a decade ago.
LDA joint secretary Atul Kumar said the notice was issued after a report from the concerned zone. The owners have been asked to submit documents within a stipulated period, following which further action will be taken.
Records show the building had faced demolition proceedings in 2016 for unauthorised construction, but the order was revoked within less than two months. The three-storey structure stands on a 1,992-square-foot plot in Sector D, Aliganj, and was approved under a residential map permit issued in 2014.
Officials said the property could not have received commercial approval as it is located on an 18-metre-wide road, while byelaws require a minimum width of 24 metres for commercial complexes....
