LDA initiates demolitionproceedings post-fire
LUCKNOW, June 24 -- Following the deadly fire incident in Aliganj's Sector-D, the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has initiated proceedings to demolish the illegally constructed building where the blaze claimed 15 lives and left nine others injured.
The Enforcement Zone-4 of the LDA issued a notice to the owners of plot number M.S.-102 in Sector-D, Aliganj, namely Virendra Shukla, Surendra Shukla and others.
The authority sought their response over violations found in the building.
According to the notice, the plot had received approval for residential use, but the owners had allegedly converted it into a commercial establishment.
The authority also found deviations from the sanctioned building plan during its inspection.
Acting under Section 27(1) of the Uttar Pradesh Urban Planning and Development Act, 1973, the LDA has initiated legal proceedings against the building owners.
The notice directs them to appear before the competent authority within 15 days and submit their explanation along with supporting evidence.
LDA officials said that if the owners fail to provide a satisfactory reply or adequate documentary proof, the authority will proceed with stringent action, including demolition of the structure, in accordance with the law.
Officials said the property could not have received commercial approval as it is located on an 18-metre-wide road, while byelaws require a minimum width of 24 metres for commercial complexes....
